Why Does Pandora Barely Have Any Subscribers?
Why do you think not a lot of people subscribe to Pandora? Is it because people want to enjoy the service for free with advertising? Do people just don't want to pay for something that's strictly supposed to be free? Well, a number of reasons actually.
Since SiriusXM acquired the internet radio giant earlier this year, Pandora has lost 9.6 million users within 2 years, on an average of 400,000 users per month. Pandora, counting their free listeners, has more listeners than Apple's streaming music service, Apple Music, which launched in the summer of 2015, with Apple Music having 60 million listeners worldwide as of June 2019. Pandora, however, still continues to trail behind on-demand music rival, Spotify, which is also available for free to everyone, which has 232 million active listeners, with 108 million of it's listeners paying $10 a month for it's Premium service, which delivers ad-free and offline listening.About 47% of Spotify's users are paying for the service (108 million), while Pandora on the other hand, only 8% of it's listeners pay for the radio service, with the other 92% having to deal with commercials.
One of my friends used to pay for Pandora, but she wanted to cancel it. She went into the Pandora app and tried canceling it, but it wouldn't let her. After numerous attempts that never worked, she called Apple Support, and asked them to cancel her subscription through the iTunes Store, as that is what it was ordered from. After a few weeks, Apple finally promised her wishes, and ended her Pandora subscription through iTunes. The only person that I know that pays for Pandora, is my older brother, who pays $5 for the Plus service. And everytime I go to Pandora on my phone, they throw that same package and push it and shove it in my face. Very pissed of right now about that. And he pays for it through Google Play, not iTunes, so there's that I guess.
This is more than likely not going to be true, but if Pandora continued to lose 400,000 listeners every month, by 2030, Pandora would only have 13.8 million listeners, and maybe only 1.16 million subscribers, making it the most least listened to internet radio service in America, and very few subscribers than any other on-demand streaming service, including Jay-Z's Tidal. Tidal has 3 million paying subscribers, and is currently the most least subscribed to service worldwide. Those people would more than likely switch to iHeartRadio, giving the competitor 195 million active listeners, making it the most listened to radio (and on-demand) service in America of all-time. iHeartRadio currently has 128 million active users as of May 2019.
